The airline FlyDubai has added Malta to its European network of routes as of May 2021, with connections between Malta and Dubai kicking off on 12 May.

The airline announced that flights to Malta International Airport will commence on 12 May with a four flights a week.

Malta is one of four new destinations that the airline has added to its repertoire: Catania, Naples, and Salzburg are the other three.

Emirates will codeshare on these routes and the flights will operate from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB).

The statement quoted Maria Camilleri Calleja, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the UAE, as saying: “Connectivity is paramount for solid ties between States; and likewise between Malta and the UAE.  Joined by the Malta Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Malta Tourism Authority, we are grateful to flydubai for announcing the route to Malta, providing an opportunity to foster and strengthen the political, commercial and people-to-people relations between our two countries.”

Fly Dubai is a subsidiary of Emirates, which pulled its Malta route – which went via Larnaca in Cyprus – due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Qatar Airways pulling its route between Malta and Qatar, also due to the pandemic, left the island with no connections to the Middle East.
