A man has died after the roof of a public toilet in Dwejra, Gozo, collapsed in on him on Thursday morning, a police spokesperson confirmed.

The victim has been identified as Charlie Attard - a 52-year-old man from Xewkija.  Police said that he was carrying out maintenance work when the incident happened.

Attard was certified as dead at the scene.

The incident happened at around 9:30am and an ambulance and the civil protection department were on site.

Duty Magistrate Bridgette Sultana is leading an inquiry while police investigations are also ongoing.

It is the second roof collapse of the day: two 75-year-olds are currently in hospital after the roof of their Sliema house collapsed overnight.
