Two people were grievously injured when a car crashed into a tree in Zabbar on Wednesday evening.

The accident took place on Triq il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa at around 7pm, the police said.

The car, a Honda Accord, was being driven by a 35-year-old woman from Cospicua. A 38-year-old man, also from Cospicua, was also in the car.

The pair were given first aid by an emergency team and were later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. Members of the Civil Protection Department also assisted.

The police are investigating.
