‘I remember reporting alleged corruption cases of ex-PN Ministers and no one took action’ – Dalli

When the PN was in Government and faced alleged corruption cases, nobody bat an eyelid, but when the PL Government was accused it left the institutions to do their work, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli told parliament on Wednesday.

"How can the PN speak about being an example when during their tenure in government there were fraud cases worth $300 million and no one carried political responsibility? When the PN had ministers who had bank accounts abroad with millions of undeclared euros in them which were not declared with the Maltese authorities? ... When you have someone who was named in a case of money laundering and all of a sudden the investigations were stopped?" she asked.

Dalli recalled her time working as a journalist and reporting on such cases, saying that nothing ever happened over them. "Those who speak out against impunity did not only close one eye, but both" she said.

The PN is causing further damage to Malta abroad in Europe, Dalli remarked, saying that the PN craves power. "During the most difficult economic crises, we have people from the Opposition who do not care. They are going to Europe to shine a bad light on Malta. This is all due to their want for power," Dalli stated.

The Minister also highlighted that Opposition leader Grech was trusting criminals by saying that he would grant them presidential pardon.

"We are seeing a prime minister who is not afraid to take steps. The institutions are working," she said.
