The government has announced more restrictive measures for the Easter period, as part of efforts to reduce the transmission of Covid-19.

As from Wednesday 31 March, the number of people who can gather in a group in a public place will be reduced from four to two. This measure does not apply to people who reside in the same residence.

This means that in public areas, groups of more than two people will be prohibited, and this includes in queues on bus stops, unless 2m social distancing is followed.

People who breach this measure will be subject to a €300 fine per person.

These measures are being introduced on the suggestion of the Superintendent of Public Health in order to limit Covid-19 transmission during Easter. The measures will apply until 11 April.

In addition, as from Monday 29 March, all countries on the travel green list will be transferred onto the Amber list.

This means that every person arriving in Malta from any county will be requested to present a PCR Covid-19 negative test taken not longer than 72 hour prior to arriving in Malta.

People who do not follow this procedure will need to take the test in Malta and be subject to a quarantine.

Flights from red zone countries will remain prohibited, except for repatriation flights.
