Two people have been charged with importing drugs after the Customs Department intercepted a packet filled with around a kilo of synthetic drugs.
The police said that, after days of investigations, they were informed by Customs on Tuesday that a suspicious mail package had been intercepted. The police followed the package as it was delivered to the couple’s Zurrieq address and arrested them shortly afterwards.
Police also found cocaine and heroin during a search inside the house.
An inquiry, led by Magistrate Gabriella Vella, was launched.
The pair, a 35-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were arraigned before Magistrate Josette Demicoli on Wednesday morning. The accused pleaded not guilty. The court granted bail against a number of conditions.
Inspectors Mark Mercieca and Alfredo Mangion prosecuted.
