The Labour Party has released a statement following the presentation of a motion for a Bill proposing the decriminalisation of abortion by independent MP Marlene Farrugia earlier this week.
The PL Parliamentary Group met today to discuss the motion.
"The discussion on a sensitive subject like abortion takes place in society in a mature and free way, and is not stifled through a motion like this. A discussion that is not monopolised by the political parties, and is built on honesty and respect towards different beliefs, without sensationalism or condemnation and against stigma," the PL said.
The Prime Minister already expressed his clear view on the subject, meaning that he is against the legalisation of abortion. But he still believes that he needs to carefully follow what is being said in the discussion in society.
