Watch: Huge fire in Nadur fields as village celebrates feast

Wednesday, 30 June 2021, 06:49 Last update: about 4 years ago

Several large fires broke out in fields in Nadur valley as the village celebrated the feast of St Peter and St Paul, known traditionally as Mnajra, on Tuesday evening

Videos received by The Malta Independent show villagers looking over the valley as fields caught fire while a fireworks display was taking place in the vicinity.

The fire spread to various areas of the valley.

One eyewitness said that initially there were only a couple of fires but the fireworks did not stop, and the falling sparks caused fires in other areas of the valley.

The civil protection department took a long time to arrive and, when it did, only one fire engine arrived on scene.

Nadur celebrates the feast of the two saints on 29 June.
