235 new Covid-19 cases found, 14 receiving treatment at Mater Dei

235 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by health authorities, while new details have been given about the cases reported on Thursday.

6 people have recovered, while no new deaths were – for another day – recorded in the last 24 hours, meaning that the total number of active cases currently stands at 1,441.

3,879 tests were carried out on Thursday, taking the total number of swab tests up to 1,033,497 so far.

For the first time, authorities gave more details about the cases being reported.

From the 222 cases reported on Thursday, authorities said that 195 were 10 to 39 years old, while the average age of all the cases was of 24.

They said that a total of 14 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, one of which is in ITU.

This builds on information received by The Malta Independent, which showed that 56 out of the 222 were Maltese cases, while 134 were tourists and the remainder were foreign residents in Malta.

Meanwhile, 718,418 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far, with 379,380 of those being first doses.

354,985 people are fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 32,069 cases so far. 30,208 of those have recovered, while 420 have died.
