Nine areas in Grand Harbour will form part of a regeneration project to be undertaken by the government in the coming months, Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg said.
They form part of a long-term regeneration project for the Grand Harbour area in a bid to maximise its potential, he added.
The port remains an important part of the country’s economic progress, and the project focuses on a plan for the waterfront along the whole harbour, the use of the land occupied by the defunct power station at Marsa and a wave agitation study review.
Borg said that the government intends to create more space for the maritime industry as well as recreational areas for Maltese families. Historical sites will be rehabilitated and put to better use.
Apart from this, Borg mentioned the removal of vessels which have been abandoned as well as a shore-to-ship facility, a €50 million investment that will cut pollution in the harbour.
