Saturday, 7 August 2021, 12:45 Last update: about 4 years ago

A man from Bangladesh was arrested in connection with human trafficking, the police said.

Passport officers at Malta International Airport stopped 11 persons from Bangladesh as they were about to embark on a flight to Italy on suspicion they were using false documents.

Investigations led the police to one of the men, aged 36, who was found to be in possession of a considerable amount of cash which indicated to the officers that he was organising the departure and/or arrival of people from/into Malta.

The man is set to be arraigned later today.

The prosecution will be led by Inspectors Christian Abela and James Turner, with the assistance of Dr Cinzia Azzopardi Alamango and Dr Maria Schembri from the Attorney General’s office.
