79-year-old woman passes away as 87 new Covid-19 cases are reported

A 79-year-old woman has passed away as 87 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Wednesday by health authorities.

The elderly woman passed away in the last 24 hours at Mater Dei Hospital while positive for Covid-19, becoming Malta’s 429th victim from the pandemic.

137 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, taking the number of active cases down to 808.

A total of 40 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, three of whom are receiving in the hospital’s Intensive Therapy United.

3,466 swab tests were carried out on Tuesday, taking the total so far up to 1,126,370.

Meanwhile, 778,936 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Tuesday with 405,723 of those being a first dose.

399,769 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 35,040 cases of the virus so far. 33,407 of those have recovered, while 429 have died.
