Prime Minister Robert Abela is protecting Joseph Muscat's close allies, thereby making him the latter's 'hostage', Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Sunday during an interview on Net FM.

Grech mentioned the current Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance, Edward Zammit Lewis, "who is a close ally to Joseph Muscat," saying that the PM is too scared to remove him. Grech insisted that Abela must denounce Joseph Muscat and "sack him from the Labour party."

Making reference to the interview that Muscat gave to the Times of Malta, Grech said that no credibility should be given to Muscat after he kept Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi by his side while he ran the country. Grech insisted that PM Robert Abela is continuing Muscat's legacy. He said that Muscat did not even mention Malta's Grey listening during the interview, and accused Muscat of attempting to discredit the public inquiry into the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Grech also spoke about the ongoing issue in the Corradino Correctional Facility, after an inmate tried to commit suicide resulting in the inmate's death days later. Grech said that the head of Corradino Correctional Facility, Colonel Alexander Dalli, is responsible for the dire situation in Malta's prison system.

Grech stated that Home Affairs Minister Byron Camillieri is nowhere to be seen, and according to Grech, Camilleri has taken no action whatsoever with regards to the ongoing situation. He also accused Robert Abela of not acting and thinking that this is business as usual.

Grech spoke about how the prisoners should not be deprived of their rights, whilst also stressing that their dignity should be respected and not taken away from them. Grech said that the prison system needs reforming. Here, the opposition leader spoke about the need for new proposals on how prisoners should be reformed, by creating a good rehabilitation process.

When asked about the Marsascala yacht marina project, Grech said that the Nationalist party is in favour of development and improvement, but if development is made it does not have to be at the expense of the residents. Grech said that the residents' needs need to be kept in mind.

"The PN made it clear the country needs to conserve spaces like this." Grech accused the government of not listening to residents' issues and accused the government of approving the project for the scope of financial reasons rather than keeping the residents at the centre of the issue.

Grech spoke about the cost of living, mentioning that the prices for food and medicines are rising. The opposition leader also talked about the high price of property and said youths cannot afford to buy property.

The PN Leader said that the Nationalist Party is establishing a new board on injustice, which seeks to hear out people's needs, difficulties and hear cases of injustice, marginalisation, or ill-treatment.

With regards to climate change, Grech stated that the country needs to be realistic about this ongoing issue, where he stressed that countries need to come together and help each other. The opposition leader said that concrete action needs to be taken in Malta about this issue, where he accused the government of not taking the climate change issue seriously after Malta failed to achieve its 2020 climate change goals. Grech added that people, collectively, need to do their part in reducing the effect of climate change.
