The arraignment by the police of a man accused of buying a number of dangerous weapons underlines the urgency of fighting crime in Malta, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

It was referring to the arraignment of Yorgen Fenech, who is already charged with being a mastermind in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Beyond yesterday's arraignment, it is important for the country to find out who the weapons and ammunition were intended to kill, the PN said.

It is crucial for the country to know whether journalists, members of the judiciary, politicians and police officers were the intended targets of these alleged planned attacks.

The country needs peace of mind that law and order are being respected, the PN said.

It is also crucial for the government to understand the urgency in ending impunity in Malta, both by implementing the recommendations of the Daphne Caruana Galizia public inquiry and by ensuring that known offenders are no longer protected.
