Tuesday, 14 September 2021, 19:25 Last update: about 4 years ago

The pilot project 'Youths for Sustainable Communities' will encourage youths to come forward with proposals on how to develop sustainable communities, particularly through entrepreneurship, a government statement read.

The project targets youths aged between 16 and 21, to provide a platform on how to turn their ideas into proposals through guidance and mentoring, the government said.

This project was announced by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli during a press conference launching the European Sustainable Development Week, 2021.

The pilot project will be led by the Junior Association of Young Enterprise (JAYE) together with the Żurrieq Local Council and the participation of entrepreneurs, who will be mentors throughout the project.

"Through this project, young people with great ideas will receive practical guidance and assistance from local entrepreneurs who can pass on their life experiences which are not necessarily learnt academically," said Minister Miriam Dalli.

The first information session will be held on the 14th of October, and interested youths are encouraged to contact J.A.Y.E or the Żurrieq Local Council.

On the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW), Minister Dalli announced that various organisations will carry out various initiatives, spread over several days between the 18th of September and the 8th of October.

Various stakeholders such as NGOs, local councils, social partners, and organisations from the financial services sector will be targeting the different SDGs. The events include an awareness campaign on domestic violence against people with disabilities, the launch of online platforms for sustainable and eco-friendly products, as well as online and coaching sessions on how projects can be sustainable.

The public is also encouraged to take part in ESDW by implementing its own sustainable changes.

Present for the press conference were the Directorate for Sustainable Development, the Guardians for the Future Generations and the Sustainable Development Network.
