A thunderstorm which hit Gozo throughout last night left a trail of damage in the seaside village of Xlendi, with pictures showing the scenes through the night and on Sunday morning.

The pictures, published by Facebook page The Weather Page Malta, showed how a car had even ended up pushed into the sea by the onrushing floodwater.

Some 50mm of rain bucketed down in parts of Gozo throughout the night, in what is the first significant thunderstorm after the summer.

The which found itself in the sea as a result of the flooding was subsequently lifted out of the bay on Sunday morning.
