Karol Aquilina to take action against police officer who leaked footage to Labour presenter

PN MP Karol Aquilina will be taking action in due time against the "most corrupt" police officer who "manipulated footage" of him two years ago in an "attempt to accuse him of dangerous driving".

The incident in question occurred in December 13 Road in Marsa in June 2019, when Aquilina was accused of having refused to obey police instructions while driving. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday on the charge which he was cleared of last week, Aquilina described it as an act of "persecution" by the Labour Party, such that the internal footage owned by the police had been passed on to One TV journalist Karl Stagno Navarra.

Aquilina said that the Labour media had gone as far as to accuse him of having tried to kill or seriously injure police officers at the time.

He said that what the Labour Party had done was an attempt to "tarnish his reputation" and "shut him up" from speaking about the ex-commissioner Lawrence Cutajar, Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi.

In a statement, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech had said that Aquilina, who had resigned as PN spokesman for justice and secretary of the parliamentary group when he was facing the charges, had been reappointed to the same positions. The PN said an investigation should be conducted on how internal footage owned by the police was passed on to One TV journalist Karl Stagno Navarra and was manipulated to carry out a character assassination campaign against Aquilina.
