The new Marsa junction was amongst the many roads afflicted by heavy flooding as rain battered Malta and Gozo overnight and into Thursday morning.
The multi-million euro project proved to offer little to match the heavy rainfall, with water gathering underneath one of the junction’s flyovers.
It left many querying the planning behind the project.
PN chief spokesperson Peter Agius particularly took to social media, noting that while €55 million had been spent on the fly-over, but that Transport Minister Ian Borg had provided a “dive-under” for free.
It’s not the first time that Marsa has been affected by heavy rains: just three weeks ago, the area close to the Ottoman cemetery flooded after a brief but heavy rain shower.
PN leader Bernard Grech latched onto the flooding to criticse the "propagandist" government for its lack of planning and fixation with finishing projects before the general election.
