Ponte Ferries is today kick-starting its service between Malta and Sicily, offering exceptional introductory prices for a one-month Christmas shopping bonanza in Sicily, the company said.

Ticket sales for its fast ferry, catamaran service to the port of Augusta – which offers passengers an alternative – open today after Ponte Ferries received a temporary permit from the Italian authorities.

During this month of operations, a return trip for a driver and private vehicle will cost under €100, while any accompanying adults can travel one way at €9.99. Children aged 13 and under, as well as pets travel for free, while cyclists can take up their bicycle at no extra charge.

Apart from these exceptional prices on passengers and vehicles, Ponte Ferries is also offering special rates for light cargo throughout this month.

These offers come at a time when people can capitalise on the slashed prices for Black Friday in neighbouring Sicily, as well as secure deals on designer brands from the popular Sicilia Outlet Village and other shopping malls, which are conveniently located a short drive away from the port of Augusta.

The much-anticipated service between Wine Wharf quay in Valletta and Augusta will initially operate five trips a week, and the itinerary allows for flexible and late departure times to enable passengers to bridge public holidays.

“We’re very appreciative of our clients’ patience and understanding during the past weeks and thank all the parties involved for their continuous support and cooperation to give Ponte Ferries the green light to set sail,” a company spokesman said.

The port of Augusta is located less than five minutes away from the autostrada, giving those wishing to reach or explore areas closer to Catania, Taormina and Syracuse quicker and easier access.
