MUMN calls for resignation of the Ministry of Health's permanent secretary

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses is calling for the resignation of the Health Ministry’s permanent secretary after no agreement was reached for phlebotomists and decontamination sterilization technicians.

In a statement, the MUMN blamed the “destructive attitude and the sheer careless approach” of the permanent secretary for this.

The shortage in the sector “is of no concern of the permanent secretary”, the MUMN charged. “The only concern which he attributes as important is how to stop MUMN's directioves and not how to reach a compromise”.

MUMN said it was taken to court when only €400 were being offered as a raise to the Phlebotomists and Decontamination Sterilization Technicians while other health professionals were given increases in salaries of thousands of euros.

Continuous Professional Development Allowances (CPD) which any healthcare worker benefits, to progress in his/her studies, were denied to these employees while other employees, who have the same academic standard, were given this CPD Allowance by the same permanent secretary, the MUMN said.

The MUMN as a result is requesting the immediate resignation of the Permanent Secretary.
