Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said Friday that everyone has a special value to society and should be given all assistance possible so as not to be left behind.

In a message for Christmas, the Opposition leader that society should do its utmost so that everyone is given the opportunity to be successful in life.

Everyone has a special value and no one should be left behind, fall behind, or be allowed to feel inferior, he said.

Everyone should be given whatever is needed to live a fruitful life as a right, and not as a favour.

Society should be one of favour, not of rights. This was the basic principle of human dignity. There should be no need for people to pay for what is needed with votes. If this had to happen, democracy would be lost together with human dignity and individual freedom.

He called on those who are doing well to think of others who are in not so fortunate a situation.

Progress, Grech said, did not matter unless everyone benefitted from it. There could not be a strong country if this did not happen.

He hoped for a kind country where no one would be in need of anything.
