Booster appointments open for over-18s, new measures come into force from today

Monday, 27 December 2021, 11:42 Last update: about 3 years ago

Malta has continued to push its vaccine booster dose campaign, with registration opening for all those over the age of 18 years of age as from today.

Up until Sunday, around 188,000 booster doses had been administered.

People who apply must do so through vaccin.gov.mt and will receive their appointment some days later.

Malta is experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases which is likely down to the arrival of the much more transmissible Omicron variant in the country.

Malta has so far reported two cases of the variant so far, but the real number is likely far higher.

From today, new restrictions also come into force.

Those of most significance are that standing events cannot be held and that establishments will have to shut their doors at 1am. Spectators have also been barred from all sporting events.

As from 17 January, vaccine certificates will have a three-month expiry from the date of the second dose, and a nine-month expiry from the date of the booster dose.

The vaccine certificate will from that date be needed to enter the following establishments: bars, snack bars, restaurants, band clubs, gyms, pools, spas, casinos, games halls, cinemas, theatres, sporting events, and all organised events.
