Part of a man’s nose and lip were bitten off in a horrific fight that took place in Zabbar on Tuesday, a court has heard.

Ehis Imobhio, 40, of Zabbar, was arraigned on Thursday and charged with having assaulted another man, causing him grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with breaching the peace and shouting insults and threats. The man cried throughout the sitting.

Inspector Darren Buhagiar, prosecuting, told Magistrate Ian Farrugia that the police received a report on a loud disturbance at a house in Triq il-Biċċieni at around 9:45pm.

Officers who rushed to the scene found the two men still fighting and had to intervene to pull them apart.

Both men were injured. The accused needed stitches to his head and thumb while the victim had had part of his nose and lip bitten off. Both men were treated at the Paola health centre and later in hospital.

The accused told the court that he was officially unemployed but did odd jobs.

His legal aid lawyer, Martha Mifsud, entered a not guilty plea. Bail was not requested at this stage.

A tearful Imobhio knelt down at the dock as he was being escorted away, telling the court that “I am not a problem person.”

The magistrate calmed the man down while urging him to behave while in custody in order to have better chances of being granted bail.
