156 fines issued for Covid-19 regulation breaches in a week

The police issued 156 fines in connection with breaches of Covid regulations last week.

The fines were issued by different police districts, the Malta Police Force said in a social media post.

Officers performed 542 hours of foot patrols and 189 kilometers of e-bike and Segway patrols by the Community Policing Teams during that week.

In breakdown of the work carried out by various branches during the week, the force said the Homicide Squad and Sliema District Police arrested a man in connection with the murder of a polish woman.

The Criminal Investigations Department arrested and arraigned a man for being an accomplice in a staged kidnapping. Three other persons were already arraigned the previous week in connection with this case.

The Criminal Investigations Department and Birkirkara District Police arrested and arraigned two men in connection with the theft of around €400,000 from a jewellery shop in Attard.

The Gender Based & Domestic Violence unit and Zabbar District Police arrested and arraigned a man for attempted murder, attempted grievous bodily harm, causing slight bodily harm to his sister and her daughter, voluntary damage, dangerous driving & disturbing public peace and order.

The Zabbar District Police arrested and arraigned a man in connection with causing grievous bodily harm, insults and threats & breaching public peace during an argument.

The St Julian’s District Police arrested and arraigned 2 women for insulting & threatening three police officers, disobeying their orders, breaching public peace and not abiding with COVID-19 regulations.

Immigration Department and Valletta District Police arrested and arraigned a man for using fake documents & driving a vehicle without a valid road license and insurance.
