Celebrating Malta’s Best Entrepreneur Awards 12th anniversary

Alberta Group director and Trademalta chairperson Liz Barbaro Sant is named as Malta’s Best Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2021

In 12 years, the company has grown to be a leader in business event management, development and promoting of the entrepreneurial spirit - and an advocate for small businesses, emerging entrepreneurs and women business leaders.

During a sold-out annual business awards gala, Dynamic Events Limited announced that Liz Barbaro Sant is the new Entrepreneur of the Year® 2021 award winner.

Malta's Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards programme is the oldest and one of the most prestigious competitive awards for local business entrepreneurs and leaders of high-growth companies. For 12 years, these awards have honoured entrepreneurs whose innovation, ambition, courage and ingenuity have driven their companies' success, transformed their industries, made a positive impact on their communities and contributed to the growth of the Maltese economy.

Barbaro Sant was selected by an independent panel of judges and she is now also recognised as one of the most esteemed multi-industry community of award winner this year.

"I am so proud to showcase what women-owned small medium-sized businesses are capable of in this prestigious group of local entrepreneurs spanning every industry," said Barbaro Sant. "Winning this award elevates the importance of what Alberta Group stands for in helping to make our Island a better place, really creating positive change for our employees, our clients and our industry. I am also deeply grateful for the acknowledgement. These awards are for our stars - the Alberta team, our suppliers and all our clients who trust and have faith in us and our brand."

Alberta Group is proud to have been awarded six Best-in-Business Awards in the following categories:

  • Best Local Service & Trade Company of the Year
  • Maltco Lotteries Best Local Business Company of the Year
  • Best Family Business Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Best Female Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Maltco Lotteries Award for Excellence
  • Maltco Lotteries Lifetime Achievement Award

Other major winners included Ben Pace Lehner and Alan Cini, Broadwing Recruitment Agency/Rocksteady Digital Agency; James Zammit, Finance House plc; Patrick Cutajar, Eyetech Ltd; George Barbaro Sant, Alberta Group, who won the coveted title of Maltco Lifetime Achievement award; Trust Payments; Strand Palace Agencies; eeetwell and TEVA Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

A great variety of different sectors and industries from all over Malta were represented. The diversity on display - both in terms of local geographical origin and entrepreneurial working sphere - demonstrated fantastically a growing dedication to responsible business practices. The qualified independent judges were looking for organisations who have been "agenda-leading in corporate responsibility and who have demonstrated superb entrepreneurial spirit" in 2021, with applications backed up by verifiable evidence from third parties.

Martin Vella, organiser of the grand gala ceremony held at the Intercontinental Hotel, St Julian's stated in his address: "It's a pleasure to see so many elite entrepreneurs and different companies from such a variety of industries and top business clusters working hard towards our common goal."

The chair of the judging committee Paul Gauci, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said: "I had the honour of chairing a panel of distinguished judges and also a very impressive short list of initiatives by leading local entrepreneurs, companies and business organisations. All demonstrated the strategic importance of sustainability to their business or organisational activities. It was extremely inspiring."

The ceremony was hosted by the lively and impassioned radio celebrity Martin Sapiano. Entertainment was provided by Dame Alison White and the White Heat dancers with a versatile cabaret show and singing, including singer Yazmin Helledie and well-known guitarist Keith 'Kiko' Muscat.
