Melita recognised for significant contribution to sustainability

Thursday, 6 January 2022, 15:40 Last update: about 3 years ago

Melita Limited is one of the winners at the Smart & Sustainability Business Awards. The awards, organised by the Ministry for the Economy and Industry, recognise businesses that have made a significant contribution to sustainable development by applying sustainable practices across their entire operation. The monetary prize awarded to Melita as part of the award will be donated to The Melita Foundation, to support its ongoing environmental projects.

Randolph Said, chief Financial officer at Melita Limited, said: “Melita has placed sustainability at the core of its operations over the past few years. We have launched a whole host of initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and to invest in international renewable energy projects. As a result, Melita will be carbon neutral next year, one year earlier than previously planned. Of course, all of us, individuals and companies, need to consider how we can reduce our carbon footprint.  It’s encouraging, therefore, to see awards like this being organised to recognise those who are taking action but more importantly to encourage others.”

The initiatives which Melita Limited has taken to become carbon neutral include installing solar panels at the Melita Data Centre, investing in the company’s mobile and fixed networks to reduce electricity consumption, installing intelligent lighting and cooling systems across sites and retail outlets and switching to electric vehicles.
