The Labour Party has accused PN Leader Bernard Grech of failing to put the national interest first when he admitted to not making arguments that Malta should benefit from funds for hydrogen-ready pipeline projects.

In a statement, the PL was referring to comments made by Grech on his participation in international meetings.

The PL also accused him of making arguments against the project which he, according to the PL, knew were not true.

The project would mean that Maltese and the Gozitans will benefit from cleaner air, diversification in sources, and stable prices, as already explained by trusted entities.

It was also noted that the owner of this project would be a state-owned company.

The PL said that this shows that Grech wants to deceive and does not miss a single opportunity to try and confuse the country, to undermine works done by the government.

The PL also said that this incident highlights the difference between the two main political parties when it comes to the national interest.

In reply, the PN said that the person who has consistently failed the national interest test is Robert Abela who has retained several contracts he knows are corrupt, while continuing to protect those who negotiated them for their personal gain, while Abela was their legal adviser.

PN’s track record of attracting EU funds and elevating Malta’s name worldwide speaks for itself, compared to Robert Abela’s government whose only international achievement is getting Malta greylisted.

PN in government will not only secure the gas pipelines funds needed but will also ensure that the money is not used to reward those who committed heinous crimes, the PN said.
