Twenty-two Church entities are seeing action to curb the rise in the price of basic items.

A statement issued by the Curia said that the entities, who work with vulnerable people, are appealing for the authorities to give priority to the matter and see that this inflation does not make the situation worse for people in need.

The price of basic items such as pasta, sauce and oil has gone up by 20%, the statement said.

This means that people in the lower rungs of society will be hit the most. These are people who live in small apartments or garages, mostly because the price for renting out more convenient places continues to increase.

There are elderly people without power and water because they cannot afford to pay up and others who appear to be living a normal life but who, if one had to enter their homes, would see a different story.

The church, through its parishes, is committed to help these families. Last year, some 1,300 families were regularly helped by church entities.
