Paulina Dembska’s family found themselves in yet another devastating and shocking situation on Thursday night after her body did not arrive in Poland, sources told The Malta Independent.

On Tuesday Dembska’s body was released for burial, with her funeral expected to take place on Saturday. Her family were at the airport on Thursday evening waiting for her body to arrive.

However, a spokesperson for Air Malta told LovinMalta that her body had now arrived in Poland, and that the issue had been due to a delayed flight.

Sources said that the body arrived at London's Heathrow Airport from Malta ahead of its eventual flight back to Poland, but subsequently did not arrive at its intended destination: Poland's capital city, Warsaw on Thursday night.

Dembska’s body was found on 2 January at the Independence Garden in Sliema after she was brutally killed while she was tending to the cats in the same garden early in the morning.

20-year-old Abner Aquilina has been charged with her rape and murder.  He pleads not guilty.

Upon the autopsy done on her body, it was established that she died of asphyxiation and was raped in the course of the brutal attack.
