PN constitutional case against PBS deemed urgent by court

Tuesday, 8 February 2022, 16:12 Last update: about 3 years ago

The recently filed Nationalist Party constitutional case against state broadcaster PBS has been deemed as a matter of urgency by the court, and therefore been given the utmost importance.

The party said that all the relevant parties, including the state broadcaster itself and the Broadcasting Authority must acknowledge the case within six days.

The relevant authorities include PBS, the Broadcasting Authority, Minister responsible for PBS Carmelo Abela as well as the state advocate. All four have to acknowledge the court case within the next six days and the first sitting is expected to be on February 17.

The PN court case relates to its claims that transmissions on the public broadcasting platform are unequally split between government and opposition.

“As the opposition we are going to continue fighting for more impartiality on public stations. PBS is being paid through our taxes and that is only fair.”

These claims have been going on for months and PN claimed that “this is the only option we were left with. As the opposition we have rights and the Maltese population deserves a balanced message.”
