Bernard Grech calls on Chris Fearne to take action against Marsascala yacht marina

Opposition leader Bernard Grech has welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne's position against the proposed Marsascala yacht marina and has called for him to use his power to take a stand against the project.

The Nationalist party has been clear, since the beginning, about its position against the marina, and the PN in government will make sure to organise the existing area for smaller boats and fishermen, Grech said in a press conference in Marsascala on Tuesday.

"We surely do not want a yacht marina that will cater only for the rich with luxury boats, who think that under Abela's government they can take advantage of Marsascala locals," Grech said, replying to journalists.

Fearne has the power to influence, to make sure that the marina is not built, he said, adding that Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg still maintains that the marina will be built, and does not seem to take notice of others' opinions.

The PN continues to remain loyal to the Marsascala locals, fishermen, local council and NGOs who are against the proposed project, he said.

Grech also addressed the news regarding the American University of Malta (AUM).

"The PN also welcomes the decision for the land at Żonqor Point to be given back to the Maltese public, which the PN has fought against since the beginning," Grech said. He called for the Prime Minister to provide further details on the conditions which the public can enjoy the stretch of land, also calling for upgrades for sports facilities in the area.
