The Ministry for Health and the Maltese Medical Association (MAM) have signed a new sectoral agreement covering the years 2022 – 2026.

This agreement will affect 1,600 medical professionals, including consultants, specialists and general practitioners who offer their services to the public sector.

In a press statement, the Ministry for Health explained that the new agreement will cover new medical realities that have become more pronounced since the Covid pandemic, such as the telemedicine service.

After the signing, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that “this sectoral agreement will make it easier to make better use of all the country’s resources, among others, by keeping health services running smoothly in the evenings and on weekends, as well as by providing more services outside Mater Dei Hospital.”

For his part, MAM President Martin Balzan said that this agreement builds on the good that already existed and that it benefits not only the doctors, but also the health service and patients.
