Aditus Foundation presents recommendations to political parties

Wednesday, 23 February 2022, 12:18 Last update: about 3 years ago

The Aditus Foundation has presented a document with recommendations to political parties, in the hope that they will be included in the electoral programmes.

The recommendations have been made in the areas of rule of law, democratic institutions, asylum and migration, citizenship and rights of citizens, justice, gender, LGBTIQ+, and international commitments.

In its statement, the foundation said that these proposals were being presented in the light of the declaration of Article 1 of the constitution, where it is highlighted that ‘is a democratic republic founded on work and on respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual’.

Aditus said that the recommendations stem from a feeling of wanting to contribute to make Malta a fairer and more just society. It is advocating for electoral campaigns to be more inclusive and democratic.

The foundation is urging parliamentary candidates to be mindful of transparency and justice, as in a democratic state they are the fulcrum of society.

Furthermore, the foundation is appealing to all parties to ensure that their campaigns are free from misogyny and racism, or any other approaches which might, as the foundation describes ‘score political points of the backs of vulnerable or disenfranchised people’.
