Prime Minister Robert Abela has pledged that the government will keep energy prices stable, 'no matter what happens'.

Abela addressed a Labour Party activity upon his return from meeting with EU leaders over the Ukrainian crisis.

Ukraine is a primary exporter of cereals and wheat, the Prime Minister said, adding that there could be a rise in the price of such goods in the EU. If there is such an increase, the government will protect people from it, he said.

The second aspect is the price of primary material used for the production of gas and hence electricity. He said that no matter the circumstances, the government will keep the energy prices stable.

Speaking about the sanctions on Russia, he said that economic sanctions were levied, including on the leaders of the Russian Federation.

The economic sanctions on Russia will not have a substantial commercial impact on Malta.

Abela then announced a new PL pledge. A PL government would hold discussions as to whether 16 and 17-year-olds should also be allowed to contest general elections. "I believe that, as a country, we should take this next step" he said.

He also said that stipends would increase by 15% if the PL is re-elected.

Abela said that the PL's manifesto proposals for the education sector will be focused on three aims: To help students develop new tools for the jobs they want, to cater for the needs of industry, and to develop stronger methods to discover vocational subjects.

Another pledge made by the Prime Minister is that new medicines would be added to the Government Formulary List.

Abela announced a few measures for persons with disability. Among other things, he said that applying to the current Sensability scheme - which allows those who benefit from it to upgrade their home with a sensory room, will be made easier.

He also said that a PL government will build new homes for persons with disability and will invest in new services and schemes to help them live an active life in the community. "To this end, we will open a new community hub in the north of Malta," he said.
