The Nationalist Party is prepared to campaign for the forthcoming general election, as it has been, but also prepared to govern the country, with the public’s interest at heart, said Opposition leader Bernard Grech, addressing a political event in Żabbar on Friday.

“When I give my word, I keep my word,” said Grech, adding that he has managed to unite the party, as well as generate it with new faces. Grech repeated that the candidates for the Nationalist party all have the public’s best interest at heart.

Grech commended the PN’s candidates who he said are special in their capacities and passion for wanting to create good for the country, bettering Malta as a whole.

He said that Prime Minister Robert Abela has only been negative in his political campaign thus far, and that besides attacks, lying, spreading hatred, and copying from the PN’s electoral programme, he has done nothing to prove the people should vote Labour. Grech condemned Abela’s use of negative billboards around the country to continue to spread hatred towards the party.

“We want to convince the people that the PN is capable of removing Malta from the greylist, which the one who put us in it in the first place has not managed to do,” Grech said, appealing for people’s votes in the upcoming election at the end of March.

He condemned Abela for failing to consult with social partners, as they continue to say that the Prime Minister never consults with them. “The seat of power is the seat of responsibility, and one must acknowledge how to use it for the good of the country,” Grech said, noting that Abela is exploiting his power for the benefit of the few within his party.

Grech reiterated Abela’s unpreparedness by saying that, yet another week of the electoral campaign has passed but the Labour electoral campaign has yet to come out. He also condemned Abela for failing to take action on the higher cost of living the country is currently suffering and will likely suffer further in light of the current Russo-Ukrainian war.

Grech accused the Labour government of robbing the public through high water and electricity bills, and when caught, it said that it was an anomaly. He also accused the PL of stealing taxpayer’s money.

He appealed that despite the current gap between Labour and Nationalist voters, that the public realizes that the PL is only interested in being served rather than serving the people.
