A 20-year-old man who was involved in a traffic crash over the weekend has succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

The man has been identified as Robert Azzopardi, a football player.

The accident happened on Saturday at 6:45am in Bieb ir-Ruwa Street in Bahrija, where Azzopardi lost control of his car and crashed into a tree and overturned.

He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but police said on Monday evening that he had died.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is leading an inquiry.
