PL governments create problems, then want credit for solving them – Grech

A PL government first creates problems, solves them after being pressured, and then expects to be given praise and credit for doing so, Opposition leader Bernard Grech said at a political rally in Żebbuġ on Tuesday.

"First, Prime Minister Robert Abela burdens groups with costs and bureaucracy, then says he will eliminate that bureaucracy," Grech said, adding that Abela is solving these problems out of convenience.

He said that the PN will eliminate such bureaucracy for NGOs, particularly those regarding local feasts, by simplifying the process for obtaining the needed permits, aiding in finances.

It is no wonder that Abela continues to refuse debates and runs away from journalists as he has no vision, ideas, no plan to present to the public, Grech said. "The only thing he knows how to do is attack, spin and lie," Grech said, repeating that the PL has not yet presented its electoral programme.

Grech branded the Labour party as arrogant, condemning it for not taking the art and culture sector seriously. He referred to Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli's 'attack' on PN candidate Julie Zahra during a TVM programme, where she said: "we are not singing on stage."

He said that the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) also condemned this act of disrespect against Malta's artists. The PN will sustain this sector by incentivizing youth to attend extracurricular activities in sports, art and culture, he said.

Grech said that the sports sector will also be given a Minister dedicated to sports.

Addressing the rising costs of goods, Grech said that Abela is being insensitive and does not think of future concerns, referring to rising costs due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Grech said that wheat and gas prices will rise at an alarming rate, and that Abela does not have the solutions to address this issue, nor the high cost of living. A PN government will monitor bread prices in Malta, while putting in place a system which guarantees a fixed price for bread for a temporary period.

With regards to spring hunting, the PN will ensure that anomalies which paint hunters as criminals will be removed, as well as the simplification of fines. "There was a referendum, and the decision was made, spring hunting is also important."
