PN calls for more police and council resources as Swieqi residents face ‘daily chaos’

The Nationalist Party has called on the government to provide more resources to police and local councils to address noise, vandalism, waste problems and public disorder in localities such as Swieqi.

In a statement, PN shadow ministers Conrad Borg Manché and Bernice Bonello said residents were being forced to live with continuous noise, vandalism, a lack of public order and ongoing problems related to waste.

They said such conditions could no longer be accepted as part of everyday life and warned that residents feared the situation would continue to deteriorate.

The PN said sleep disruption, nighttime noise, vandalism and a growing sense of insecurity were having a serious impact on residents.

"People have the right to live in their homes, which in many cases they bought after years of sacrifice, in peace, dignity and safety," the party said.

The Opposition accused the government of failing to match its pre-election promises with the reality experienced by families in affected communities.

It called for immediate action, arguing that police officers and local councils could not be expected to solve the problems without sufficient staffing, resources and enforcement tools.

The PN also claimed that some of the problems were the result of political decisions taken by the government itself.

It said communities could not continue to be left to face a situation that had been worsening over time.

"People are suffering. It is time for the government to stop with the fine words and start delivering on what it promises," the party said.

The statement was issued by Borg Manché, the PN's shadow minister for home affairs and security, and Bonello, shadow minister for local government and public works.
