Finance Minister Clyde Caruana announced that as from Monday 14 March, two sets of government cheques will start to be distributed to all those eligible.

These two rounds will be including a total of more than 580,000 cheques.

The two sets of cheques are the yearly tax rebate as well as a one-time payment to all working citizens and pensioners due to the rise of cost of living brought by the pandemic.

With regards to the tax rebate, as proposed in the 2022 Budget, the amount given to workers will vary from €60 to €140. These will be calculated in accordance to the amount of income each individual worker earns.

The other cheques will include a one-time payment of either €100 or €200. Prime Minister Robert Abela together with Caruana had announced this incentive in February as part of a €70 million injection into the Maltese economy.

All workers would be receiving a €100 cheque while pensioners will be receiving a €200 cheque.
