Enemalta Corporation said it is investigating the damage caused to the energy interconnector which was caused by the anchor of a ship that went out of control during last Saturday’s storm.

In a post on its Facebook page, Enemalta said that the first inspection showed that the interconnector had been damaged.

For several hours, the energy supply from the interconnector was halted but, in spite of this, the electricity services were never interrupted.

This was possible after Enemalta took the necessary steps to utilise emergency plants it has in Delimara.

Enemalta said that legal and technical steps were taken for the damage to be repaired.

On Saturday, the chemical tanker Chem P was in great difficulty off the coast of Bahar ic-Caghaq, with tug boats employed for several hours to keep it offshore and later taking it to safety.
