Nearly 400 new Covid cases, 46-year-old woman among victims

Nearly 400 new Covid-19 cases have pushed the number of active cases up to nearly 4,000 again, as a 46-year-old woman is among three who were reported dead on Saturday.

In total, three women died, the other two aged 86 and 91. In all, 630 people have died since the start of the pandemic.

The number of new cases registered on Saturday reached 392, with 115 recoveries. The daily numbers of the past days are similar to those we experienced in January, when the omicron surge was on its way down.

This has taken the number of active cases to 3,864. The last time we had a bigger number of active cases was on 27 January.

Election campaign activities have contributed to the rapid rise in the number of new and active cases in the past weeks.

The number of people in hospital remains 77, with three in intensive care.

The health authorities said that 1,255,082 vaccination doses have been administered, of which 349,769 were booster jabs.

Malta has had 76,631 cases of the virus. 72,217 of those have recovered, while 630 have died.
