Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Saturday that he is determined to make the Nationalist Party a winner again.

This comes following the results of the 2022 general election where the Labour Party won with a difference of 39,474 votes.

During a brief phone interview on NET FM, Grech said that following the general election last weekend, the Nationalist Party continued with its work to strengthen the party even further.

“We are obliged to continue being the voice of not only those thousands of people who voted for the Nationalist Party, but also for those 50,000 people who opted not to be a part of this general election by not voting,” Grech said.

He added that the 50,000 people who did not vote sent a clear message to all politicians. A message which goes to show that these people are losing faith in politics.

Speaking about Pope Francis’s visit, Grech highlighted that “for thousands of people in Malta, his visit is a moment of National unity where we can put aside our partisan colours and look at the values that strengthen all the Maltese people.”

Pope Francis is headed to Malta on Saturday for a pandemic-delayed weekend visit.

Asked on what Grech will do next, he said that he will continue working on uniting and regenerating the party.

“Even through this general election, the Nationalist Party has strengthened its regeneration as a number of candidates were elected,” Grech said.
