Stephen Calleja takes over from Neil Camilleri as new TMI Editor-in-Chief

The Malta Independent’s newsroom is undergoing a process of renewal, with Stephen Calleja taking over as the new Editor-in-Chief.

Calleja takes over from Neil Camilleri, who has served in the role for the past three years.

Camilleri has decided to step down from the role to be able to take on a more active role in journalism. In fact, he will be travelling to Ukraine again in August to cover the conflict there on a longer term. Camilleri has already been to Ukraine twice since the war started.

He has now assumed the role of Senior Editor within the newsroom.

Calleja has been employed with Standard Publications for nearly 30 years and has served in several editorial positions, including Daily Editor, Online Editor and Senior Editor.

The changes also form part of a wider restructuring exercise that will be completed over the coming weeks.
