Land at Smart City with a value of €63 million will be given to Sadeen Group for €15,000 instead of Zonqor land, the Nationalist Party said.

Speaking at a press conference, PN MPs Darren Carabott and Rebekah Cilia said that the land for the American University of Malta’s relocation, which was initially planned at Zonqor in Marsascala and has now been relocated to a portion of land at Smart City, has a value of €63 million.

The Labour government will however give the 32,000 square metre land to Sadeen Group for only €15,000, Carabott said.

Cilia said that the AUM project had been bankrupt since the beginning and the land at Żonqor should never have been earmarked to be handed over.

Carabott said that the government is facilitating a company, which has already failed from the very beginning with its project due to conditions not being met, to receive the 32,000 square meters land

Carabott said that if the company is already bankrupt, government should not give it land which is owned by the public. He questioned the way the government is speeding up the deal, also following a failure of presenting missing documents in parliament.

“The PL’s attitude towards open spaces is failing the Maltese people, and this attitude must change to safeguard our public spaces,” Carabott said.

Cilia reiterated that public land should never have been taken from the people in the first place, and that the PN will continue to express its position against this attitude.
