"Sport is not just about who wins or who achieves the best result; it is also about participation, friendships, teamwork and, above all, the joy of being active," he said.

Deo Grech, head of Fgura Primary School A, said the initiative was particularly important at the beginning of a new scholastic year, as it placed greater emphasis on physical activity in students' daily routines.

He said dedicated time for physical activity could help children concentrate better and improve their wellbeing, adding that exercise should be integrated into the planning of the school day.

Students Logan Spalding Hammett and Bianca Schembri also highlighted the importance of sport. Logan said he enjoyed taking part in activities with his friends, while Bianca said the school had organised different games and stressed the importance of exercise for maintaining good health.
