A total of 1,478,626 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo on 10,338
Trips during the second quarter of this year, statistics published by the NSO show.
June was the busiest month, with 3,566 trips and 459,524 passengers carried. This amounted to 34% of the total passengers crossing the archipelago in Q2.
The data shows that 1,352,221 passengers travelled between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa, which was an increase of 49% over the same period the previous year.
When compared with 2021 the number of vehicles increased by 21.6 per cent, totalling 498,214.
In total the number of trips during the second quarter amounted to 8,675, which when compared to the same period last year an increase of 19.6% can be seen.
Out of all months June registered the highest number of trips with 2,964, totalling to 34.2 per cent of total trips for the quarter.
During January-June 2022, both passenger and vehicle traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays.
On the other hand, from the Mġarr terminal, passenger traffic was highest on Sundays and Saturdays, while the highest number of vehicles were recorded on Sundays and Mondays.
