The man who was stabbed to death in Marsa on Monday has been identified as a 21-year-old Egyptian national, the police said.

No further details were given, as per police protocol.

A Sudanese man has been charged over the murder.

The murder happened at 6:30pm following an argument between two persons in Triq Patri Felicjan Bilocca in Marsa.

Police said on Monday morning that members of its Rapid Intervention Unit went on site where a man was found on the ground, unconcious, and with stab wounds from a pointed weapon.

The victim was given medical assistance on site and taken to Mater Dei Hospital immediately. He suffered from four stab wounds in his chest and back, police said.

He was certified as dead soon after arrival in hospital.

The suspect was arrested in a street closeby soon after the victim was found.  The knife which was allegedly used in the murder was found in his posession.

On Wednesday, TVM published footage of the arrest. Prior to the arrival of police officers, the suspect was surrounded by a number of migrants who blocked his escape.

Al Mahy Ezzo Saeed, from Darfur, has pleaded not guilty to homicide. He was remanded in custody.

The police said its investigations and a magisterial inquiry are still ongoing.
