Traffic gridlock in Pieta persists as road works continue

Wednesday, 27 July 2022, 15:42 Last update: about 3 years ago

The traffic gridlock in the Pieta area has continued for the third day running as Infrastructure Malta continues its road works in one of the major links towards the capital city.

Work started Monday on parts of the northbound carriageway of Independence Avenue, which leads from Pieta to Floriana/Valletta, and they are set to last until the end of the week.

The closure of this major thoroughfare has led to long traffic jams in the area, with people arriving late to work, missing other appointments and generally feeling frustrated that they are wasting so much time stuck in traffic.

Tourists are known to have had their tours cut short or rushed through because of this unpleasant situation.

Readers have told The Malta Independent that it has taken them 90 minutes to travel from Sliema to Valletta, a journey that normally takes 10 minutes.
