The first Ukraine war documentary produced by The Malta Independent journalists Neil Camilleri and Giuseppe Attard is now available to watch on The Malta Independent website.

Camilleri and Attard produced a 34-minute documentary on their first visit to Ukraine in March, with the aim of raising funds for refugees living under the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

They travelled to the war-torn country between 28 March and 7 April, visiting cities like Lviv and Kyiv, and witnessed widespread destruction and loss of life at Irpin and war crimes in Bucha.

During their stay, they also interviewed many refugees staying at Salesian homes in Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia.

The documentary was sponsored by GO, which enabled the team to remain connected by providing them with unlimited data during their stay in Ukraine. It was previously exclusively available to GO TV subscribers.

The documentary – with English subtitles - features footage from places such as Irpin, Bucha, Stoyanka and Dmitrivka, as well as interviews with Ukrainian mothers who fled the conflict with their children.

The two journalists also speak about their experiences in country, including the situation in Kyiv, and the support they were given by Ukrainian volunteers.

This is a non-profit project and all proceeds from the documentary will go to the Salesians, who will use the funds to care for refugee families.

The team recently went back to Ukraine, where they reported on the conflict in the eastern part of the country, primarily from Kharkiv. They are currently working on their second documentary.
