Former Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici is now in stable condition, according to reports.

Mifsud Bonnici was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on Sunday.

Mifsud Bonnici served as Prime Minister between 1984 and 1987, succeeding Labour party stalwart Dom Mintoff.

The PL lost the 1987 election under Mifsud Bonnici's leadership, although he remained party leader until 1992. Mifsud Bonnici is now 89 years old.

Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday evening that he had visited the former PM in hospital to offer him words of courage.
